Photoshop workshop 1 - altering dark images

Before image.

If your picture is too dark then this can be altered. To do this go into Image on the main menu. Then select adjustments. You can then either choose to use brightness/contrast or levels. I have chosen to use levels as this is the best way.

Once selected it will bring up the levels box on the screen. Within this is a graph.

Below the graph are three pointers. Moving these will adjust the brightness of your image.

Once you have altered these to to your desired brightness press ok in the levels box. The levels box will then close and you can save your picture.

Saving

To save your work go to File. This is the first option on the menu bar.

Then select Save As.

This will open the save options. In here you can rename your work in the file name box. You can also choose which format to save your picture in. TIFF and PHOTOSHOP are best for final work as they do not reduce the image quality. However TIFF is best as this opens on all computers and PHOTOSHOP doesn't.

You can also save in JPEG but this compresses the image. The file size is small but the quality is reduced. It is suitable for test prints and experiments but not for final work. When using JPEG you must set the options to maximum as seen below.

Photoshop Workshop - Introduction and contact sheet

Introduction

For this assignment I have been asked to produce one final image. This image must be manipulated in some way using photoshop to create a fantasy landscape. This must be made up of several different images to make a landscape that doesnt exist. I will use my knowledge gained from the photoshop workshops to help me do this. I will also research other peoples work to inspire my final image.
