3d imagery how to make
To make my two final images we had to first take the original images. The way i made these was to take 2 original images. One from the left eye and one from the right.
You then need to open them in photoshop. Each image needs to be in a separate layer on the same picture.
Make sure you have selected Layer 1. Then select Image from the top menu bar. Then Adjustments and then Levels.
This will now open a new box.
From this you need to select red from the drop down box for channels. Once selected the output will read 255. This needs to be changed to 0.
You now need to select screen from the layers box.
Layer 1 is now complete. You now need to select the Background layer. Going back into Image - Adjustments - Levels, change the channel to green and the output to 0.
Repeat the above step again, still on the background layer, changing the channel to blue this time.
Both layers are now complete and should appear 3 dimensional through 3d glasses. However if there is to big a space between the left and right eye image this will need correcting before it will work. To do this select the move tool and move Layer 1 closer to the background layer until it appears 3 dimensional.

Nancy Burson - Composities
Nancy Burson is an American artist born in 1948. After moving to New York she became interested in EAT (experiments in art and technology). It was from this interest that she began to collaborate with computer engineers to produce a program which could produce an image of persons face at different age stages. This then began the Age Machine, the first of 4 programs capable of digitally manipulating the face. Later calibrations have created the Human Race Machine to see what people look like if they where born into a different race. This was created initially for the Millennium Dome in 2000 but has since been used as a tool to discuss issues of race. There is also the Anomaly Machine which was created to show various facial deformities. The most impressive however is the program they created to digitally manipulate images to create a whole new face out of others. This made Burson the pioneer of computerised digital manipulation. A thing so widely used today.
Produced in 1982 Burson created the above portrait image. This is titled Warhead 1. The image is made using extensive digital manipulation. This is used to merge the faces of people together, to create one new face, which is true to belief. The idea behind this image was to create the face of world power. To create the this image Burson used the faces of various historical leaders. It is made using the following people and proportions.55% Reagan, 45% Brezhnev, and less then 1% each to Thatcher, Mitterand and Deng. The image was originally produced as part of a series of manipulated portraits. It was then published in her book 'Composites' in 1986 but is now part of a show containing over 100 images entitled 'Seeing is believing".
Also included in the same series of manipulated portraits by Burson is the above image. 'Mankind' was produced between 1983-85. This digitally manipulated image was created by mixing the faces of Oriental, Caucasian and Black people. The proportion of their characteristics used is based on the proportion of them in the world. This in effect would be the face of the ultimate race.
Burson's early composites however are her most impressive. Created in 1982 she produced 2 portrait images of females. Their faces made purely from those of very famous women of the time. These images are faultless in their appearance showing the true skill of Burson's manipulation. Each image looks completely convincing that it could be an actual person as opposed to a fictional one. They both contain soft and delicate features. The shadows created on the faces add to the realistic look of them. They are placed perfectly with where natural shadows lie across the face with the lighting used for portraits. The above image is made up of Bette Davis, Audry Hepburn, Grace Kelley, Sophia Loren and Marilyn Monroe.
The second image created at the same time consists of the faces of Jane Fonda, Jacqueline Bisset, Diane Keaton, Brooke Shields and Meryl Streep. I find her work with digital manipulation is very creative and inspiring. I really like how they are created and the idea behind them. The concept of taking a series of original images and manipulating parts of them, to create a whole new image which is believable to look at is very clever. The basic idea behind them can be used in my assignment but using a different area. As i could take images of something people see everyday that comes in different forms and merge them together to create a new object. For example you could create a whole new building from merging parts of famous buildings together.
photoshop workshop 2- introduction
We have six weeks for this half of the assignment. During these six weeks we will be completing 3 Photoshop workshops. This is to gain further skills needed for completion of the assignment. Alongside this we have been asked to research the history of digital manipulation and artists which use this. This will then inspire our final piece. For our final piece we have been asked to produce a minimum of one final image. This image must be digitally manipulated in some way. The theme of this is completely up to us but it must use our current photoshop knowledge to create it. It also must be documented along the way with idea development and and annotation to all work. This assignment covers unit 34 which aims to recognise digital manipulation in the work of others, be able to digitise source material, be able o originate work using image manipulation and be able to present your own design ideas.
